Our work in this area includes routine maintenance as well as major outage work and asset enhancement. Our business model has developed so that we are able to self deliver the key disciplines in the areas of Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC as well as minor building and civils activity. This has greatly enhanced our flexibility and therefore our ability to respond quickly when operational support becomes a priority.

Mechanical/Electrical Supply and Installation – Example projects

Shepley are now established as a major multidisciplined contractor with one of the largest pools of skilled trade resources within the entire UK nuclear programme. We have a very healthy training and development agenda with a large domestic apprenticeship scheme to deal with the future anticipated demands in our sector. We have a vast and proven track record of safe and effective ME&I project delivery across a range of environments and sectors. Shepley have, and continue to be, associated with many of the UK’s major nuclear projects and our group business model provides an integrated self delivery solution including supply, manufacture, installation and final commissioning.

High Level Waste Storage Plant at Sellafield

A range of tasks including:
Evaporator B project, involving a series of plant improvements to an existing evaporator to help improve performance and evaporative capacity.

Steam Improvements, involving the upgrade of the condensate and high pressure steam systems within HALES. Over 1km of stainless steel pipework, ranging from 8nb to 200nb was installed.

Intermediate Heat Exchanger project, involving the integration of an IHX within existing pipework configurations of the cooling tanks.

Evaporator D at Sellafield

Highly active evaporators play a pivotal role in the delivery of reprocessing, historic clean up and hazard reduction missions across the Sellafield site. Construction of Evaporator D, a new Highly Active (HA) Liquid Evaporator will provide additional capacity to support the sites existing evaporators.

Shepley were responsible for all aspects of Mechanical and Electrical installation work for the entire project. Our scope of service drew upon the complimentary support of the Shepley group companies, including PPS and West Cumberland Engineering (WCEL). Fabrication of all pipework, supports and module steelwork was carried out at our WCEL Workington facilities.

EPS3 Store at Sellafield

The Encapsulated Product Store 3 (EPS3) is a new intermediate level waste (ILW) store, providing additional capacity to support the two existing stores. The store is designed to safely house ILW generated from nuclear reprocessing operations and clean-up work on site until disposal is possible.

Shepley were responsible for all aspects of pipework manufacture, supply, installation and testing as well as the installation of a range of mechanical process plant.
Fabrication of pipework and associated supports was carried out at our WCEL facilities in Workington.

Multi-Disciplined Site Wide Framework at Sellafield

 

Mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, minor building and civils work together with the necessary support services are all part of the delivery scope within this major contract at the Sellafield site.

Aligned principally with production operations we are engaged to deliver a very broad range of tasks within a number of environments. The work includes routine maintenance, major outages as well as asset care and improvements.

The Shepley Group business model allows the self delivery of the vast majority of tasks, providing a very responsive and efficient service.

Receipt & Storage Building Cladding

Removal of the existing 13,000 square meters of single skin aluminium sheeting and replacement with Corus composite Trisomet 333 panels.

The contract which required a phased approach to maintain weather integrity also included the replacement of approximately 20 tonnes of structural parapet steelwork.

Flask Maintenance Facility Upgrade

Our scope involved all mechanical and electrical support to this important upgrade programme, including the manufacture and installation of three new powered platforms together with all associated ancillary equipment.
